Steve Jobs was put up for adoption at birth. Greg Calhoun (Jobs close friend after college) said, “Steve talked to me a lot about being abandoned and the pain that it caused. It made him independent.” Steve was soon adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs. Paul was a high school dropout that had an interest in mechanics, and Clara was a bookkeeper. When Steve was two, Paul and Clara adopted a girl and named her Patty. The family moved to the suburbs and Paul shared his passion of mechanics with Steve. Steve and his father became very close as Steve grew up. Steve said,"My dad did not have a deep understanding of electronics, but he'd encountered it a lot in automobiles and other things he would fix. He showed me the rudiments of electronics, and I got very interested in that." Clara taught
Steve how to read before he went to school, so Steve was always very intelligent. At the end of fourth grade, Steve's teacher tested him, and his score was at a high school sophomore level. Steve's school wanted him to skip two grades, to keep him learning, but his parents decided for him to only skip one grade. Steve then continued on learning through middle and high school.
